A photography book by TAKAY, vividly capturing Yohji Yamamoto’s creative vision and the many subjects who embody it. The subjects span a wide range—from cultural figures and actors to musicians—including Akira Ayukawa, Yuji Kudo, Char, Masatoshi Nagase, Yukio Ninagawa, Rie Miyazawa, Daido Moriyama, and Lily Franky (listed in Japanese syllabary order, honorifics omitted). The images evoke not only memories of TAKAY’s own childhood and the Showa-era Japan he grew up in, but also the avant-garde spirit of Yohji Yamamoto’s style and a distinctively Japanese sensitivity and grace.

Entirely shot in black and white, the book impresses with the striking boundaries of “black” and “silhouette” that so strongly define Yamamoto’s work. The title Fluence reflects TAKAY’s enduring sense of how styling clothing transforms people into photographic subjects.
