We are pleased to announce the release of a special photobook titled DIALOGUE Yohji Yamamoto and Sarah Moon, capturing the “dialogue” between Yohji Yamamoto and Sarah Moon.
In conjunction with the launch, a photo exhibition will be held at the Yohji Yamamoto Aoyama flagship store from Friday, June 6, 2025, to Monday, June 30, 2025.
This exceptional photobook, themed around the artistic “dialogue” between Yohji Yamamoto and Sarah Moon, features 45 photographs centered on newly commissioned works, all bound in a minimalist black cover.
In Sarah Moon’s fashion photography, women take center stage, and each piece of clothing becomes the starting point for a narrative. Since the late 1990s, she has been photographing Yohji Yamamoto’s collections, drawn to his distinctive creative approach. Born from this long-standing collaboration, the book begins with a dialogue exploring the similarities in their artistic philosophies—the importance of suspended moments, the gifts of creation, and their shared pursuit of wonder. Words like “gift” and “chance” appear frequently, yet are underscored as things to be earned through dedication and effort. A shared resistance to trends also binds the two artists.
The book opens with a portrait of Yohji Yamamoto taken by Sarah Moon, followed by images from iconic collections of the 1990s. A photo of scissors—a symbol of cutting—leads the viewer into the present day. The newly captured images, presented in both color and black-and-white, showcase Yohji Yamamoto’s Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections from the past five years. The layout of the book is interwoven with Yohji Yamamoto’s favorite words and Sarah Moon’s enigmatic imagery, culminating in Yamamoto’s own sketches. This book is a one-of-a-kind expression of a deep, mutual trust cultivated over more than 30 years.

Sarah Moon:
In her personal work, Sarah Moon explores three central themes: “the fragility of beauty,” “uncertainty,” and “the passage of time.” Her artistic vision extends beyond fashion to include nature and mythology, all wrapped in her signature soft-focus technique. She is especially known for her use of Polaroids, halftone imagery, and hazy facial expressions, and has published numerous books.
Her notable works include Vrais semblants, Coïncidences, and 1.2.3.4.5, which received the Nadar Prize. Sarah Moon has won numerous awards and gained international acclaim. In 2021, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris hosted a major retrospective titled PasséPrésent.
