Yohji Yamamoto Umbrella

From Friday, August 21, the “Yohji Yamamoto Umbrella,” a rain and sun umbrella crafted from the traditional Koshu-ori textile, will be available exclusively at select stores and THE SHOP YOHJI YAMAMOTO.

Yohji Yamamoto Umbrella is a Made in Japan rain and sun umbrella created by Komiya Shoten, a long-established umbrella maker founded in 1930 and based in Higashi-Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

Each umbrella is carefully handcrafted through numerous individual processes, with the tension of the fabric and stitching adjusted one by one to achieve a beautiful silhouette reminiscent of a traditional long umbrella when opened.

The handle, featuring a ferrule and a chic chain, is made from signature-engraved brass and finished with a substantial and elegant black nickel coating.

Koshu-ori is a traditional textile from Yamanashi with a history spanning 400 years.

The umbrella is crafted from an original fabric woven in a satin weave using specially adjusted yarns to achieve a deep black. Its lustrous, richly nuanced color and substantial texture are among its defining characteristics.

The fabric selvedge is used along the edges, creating a clean, stitch-free design. The fabric is treated with both water-repellent and water-resistant finishes, as well as UV protection, allowing the umbrella to be used not only as a rain umbrella but also as a parasol. An umbrella sleeve, convenient for rainy days, is also included.
