Yohji Yamamoto has reopened its relocated store in Hong Kong. This is the brand's first two-story duplex store, with the first floor featuring Yohji Yamamoto and Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME collections. The second floor offers a variety of accessories, including discord Yohji Yamamoto, L’odeur Yohji Yamamoto, and Yohji Yamamoto Eyewear.
Hong Kong is known for its dense concentration of slender high-rise buildings, a feature notable for its architectural uniqueness. Particularly impressive from a technical perspective is the structure of the foundations, which span multiple levels and house structural elements, parking areas, and mechanical rooms. This store’s concept draws inspiration from such subterranean structures. These steel and concrete constructions extend far beyond the scale we are accustomed to.
The interior design reflects this monumental scale by enlarging the beams on each floor, emphasizing height variations and the vertical axis. In areas without ceilings, existing concrete structures, ventilation ducts, and pipes are fully exposed. Materials such as cement panels, galvanized steel plates, and metal mesh highlight the foundational nature of the space.
The first floor of this duplex store is lined with racks showcasing collections, while the salon-like second floor displays bags, eyewear, and accessories. The staircase connecting the floors is covered in steel wires and shelves that cut diagonally through the two floors, creating a constructivist aesthetic. All walls are slightly tilted, embodying the asymmetry and tension emblematic of Yohji Yamamoto.
