Under the theme of “Anti-Mode,” S’YTE, inheriting the distinctive cutting and silhouettes of YOHJI YAMAMOTO INC., introduces its first-ever sneaker. The new model will be available from Saturday, September 19.
This model was created in collaboration with “FINE VULCANIZED,” a product line by MOONSTAR, a footwear manufacturer founded in 1873 in Kurume, Fukuoka. Beginning with tabi footwear at the time of its founding, MOONSTAR has expanded its craftsmanship from jika-tabi and canvas shoes to rubber footwear, cultivating and passing down its distinctive shoemaking techniques in Kurume for more than 150 years.
Today, MOONSTAR continues to use historic buildings that survived the ravages of war as part of its manufacturing facilities, carrying its longstanding craftsmanship into the present day.
Made using the vulcanization process, a method employed by only a very limited number of factories in Japan, the sneakers offer a supple and flexible feel, durability, and a beautifully refined silhouette. Requiring extensive handwork and the expertise of skilled craftsmen, the process includes “tsurikomi,” in which the upper is carefully shaped and fitted to the insole, with each pair finished by hand.
The base model is the “GYM CLASSIC” by MOONSTAR. Built on the heritage of athletic footwear, the model offers a comfortable, spacious fit, complemented by a heel patch and tongue embroidery specially created for S’YTE.
“001” marks the starting point of S’YTE’s footwear collection. With MOONSTAR’s long history and shoemaking expertise as its foundation, this pair symbolizes S’YTE’s first step into a new product category.
